Amazon India is gearing up for a significant leap in the country’s e-commerce market by introducing a new 15-minute delivery service. Dubbed Amazon Tez, this initiative aims to transform how customers receive essential goods, providing ultra-fast doorstep delivery.

At a conference in New Delhi, Amazon India’s Country Manager, Sameer Kumar, announced the pilot phase of Amazon Tez, which is set to launch this month in select cities. The service will later expand to more locations. This move is seen as a strategic response to competition from quick-commerce platforms like Blinkit and Zepto.

Challenge For Other E-Commerce Players

E-commerce giant Amazon’s debut in India’s rapidly growing $6-billion quick commerce market, joining the ranks of Zomato’s Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, Zepto, Flipkart Minutes, and BigBasket.

Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries is also entering the quick commerce space in India, aiming to compete with companies like Swiggy and Zepto. According to media reports, Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance is venturing into quick commerce with a 10-30 minute delivery target.

Amazon India On 15 Minutes Delivery

“Customers prefer the convenience of having essentials delivered to their homes rather than visiting stores,” Kumar remarked. “Quick commerce is all about ease and speed. With Amazon Tez, users can expect essential items delivered within 15 minutes. The service is rolling out in a few weeks, starting this month.”

In addition to enhancing delivery services, Amazon has made a significant pledge to generate 2 million new jobs in India by 2025. These jobs will span sectors like e-commerce, delivery, manufacturing, and technology.

Sameer Kumar highlighted Amazon’s progress since its 2020 commitment to creating jobs in India. To date, the company has generated approximately 1.4 million jobs across various domains, reinforcing its role as a key driver of employment in the country.
