Garmin has expanded the capabilities of its smartwatches by introducing WhatsApp support on select models. This new feature allows users to view and reply to messages directly from their wrist, enhancing communication functionality across Garmin’s wearable lineup.
The WhatsApp integration is available as a free app via Garmin’s Connect IQ Store. It supports a range of devices across the Fenix, Forerunner, Venu, and Vívoactive series. To use the feature, the smartwatch must be paired with an Android or iOS smartphone that has WhatsApp installed, and it requires an active Bluetooth connection between the devices.
Reports indicate that compatible models include devices such as the Enduro 3, Fenix 8 series, Forerunner 570 and 970, Quatix 8, Tactix 8, Venu 4, Venu X1, and Vívoactive 6. Users must ensure their smartphones are running WhatsApp version 2.26.70 or later, along with the latest Garmin app version.
Once configured, users receive real-time WhatsApp notifications on their smartwatch. They can read full messages, view sender details, and access up to 10 recent conversations. Replies can be sent using the watch’s keyboard, quick responses, or emojis.
The feature also supports incoming WhatsApp call alerts, allowing users to decline calls directly from the watch. While media previews are supported, users cannot send photos or videos through the smartwatch.
Garmin confirmed that all messages and calls remain protected with end-to-end encryption. However, the feature currently supports only personal WhatsApp accounts and does not extend to WhatsApp Business.
This update marks a significant step forward for Garmin, as WhatsApp becomes the first third-party messaging app officially supported on its smartwatches through the Connect IQ platform. The Connect IQ Store, available on both Android and iOS, continues to offer a wide range of apps, watch faces, and additional features for Garmin users.
