The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is going to launch the world’s most expensive satellite in 2025. The satellite is expected to be launched in the month of March. Union space minister Jirendra Singh said that the earth-imaging satellite is being developed by ISRO and US space agency, NASA. The cost of the satellite is Rs 12, 505 crore.
The minister said, “This satellite will scan nearly all land and ice every 12 days and will have very high resolution.” He further added that the satellite is designed to monitor the world’s environmental changes and natural disasters.
This satellite is named Nasa Isro Satellite Aperture Radar (NISAR). The satellite’s weight is 2600 kilograms. NASA and ISRO had jointly agreed to work on the NISAR mission in 2014. The mission was expected to be launched in 2024 but it was delayed due to Covid pandemic.
For the mission, NASA is providing L-Band Synthetic Aperture Radar, High rate communication subsystem, GPS-receiver, Solid state recorder and payload data subsystem. Likewise NASA, ISRO is offering space craft, S-band radar, launch vehicle and launch related services.
The cost of the project is Rs 12, 505 crore which makes it world’s most expensive earth-imaging satellite. The satellite will scan nearly all land and ice every 12 days and will have very high resolution. The satellite will be launched through ISRO’s GSLV Mk-II from Satish Dhawan Space Research Centre.
