In 1936, the heart of the Earth, our inner core, was uncovered by none other than Inge Lehmann, an accomplished Danish seismologist. The speed and direction of its rotation has sparked much discussion within the science community since. Our current understanding is primarily based on studying variations in waves that pass through the core at different points in time.

Now we not only have more proof of our Earth slowing its roll, but this research also adds weight to the theory proposed by scientists in 2023 – the changes in speed aren’t random but part of a rhythmic ebb and flow in our planet’s pace.
In 2023, a theory emerged explaining the dynamism of the Earth’s core rotation. It postulates that the inner core once revolved quicker than the crust, but, over time, it has slowed down. Initially, the core and the rotation of the Earth were harmonized, but as time elapsed, the speed of the core’s rotation decreased and finally took on a reverse direction.
